The memory story: 16GB is the floor, 32GB is better

Rust is a memory hog, and that is the single biggest thing people underestimate. Eight gigabytes of system RAM is below what the game needs today. You will get long stalls, texture pop-in, and hard stutters as Windows swaps memory to your drive. The official minimum is 12GB, but 16GB is the honest floor for a smooth session.

Thirty-two gigabytes is worth it if you play on large modded servers or high-population wipes. Players watching the game commonly see 15 to 25GB of RAM in use once a map is loaded and busy, and pushing past what you have installed is what causes the worst micro-stutter. Why your frame rate tanks on busy servers
