Marvel Rivals runs, and runs reasonably well, on the official minimum card, but how well depends less on the badge on your GPU than on two settings: Lumen global illumination and shader compilation. Lumen is Unreal Engine 5's dynamic lighting system, and it is the single most expensive setting in the game. On an RTX 3060 paired with a Ryzen 5 5600, turning Lumen off roughly doubles the 1080p Ultra frame rate, from a little over 60 fps to well past 110.

Shader compilation is the other half of the story. The first time you load a new hero, map, or driver version, the game compiles graphics shaders in the background, and that shows up as brief hitching mid-match. NetEase added an experimental Switch Shader Compilation Mode in the Season 2 update that limits this to your first launch after an update, which helps most on systems with 16 GB of RAM or less. Play one full match after any patch or driver update before judging your frame rate; the worst stutter is usually a one-time cost, not a permanent problem.

Fixing stutter and picking settings

If you are getting a low but steady frame rate, the fix is different from fixing actual stutter. For low fps, drop Lumen from High to Medium or off first, then lower Shadow Quality and Post Processing; those three cost the most and change the look the least.
