Check if your PC can run GTA 5

Your graphics card (GPU)
Your processor (CPU)
Your RAM

Pick your graphics card and processor to check.

The checker below tests against GTA V Enhanced (2025), the demanding version. The original GTA V runs on almost any PC.

Can I run GTA 5 on my PC?

Use the checker above to find out in seconds. Pick your graphics card and processor and it compares them against GTA 5's official requirements. As a quick guide, you need at least a GTX 1630 4GB / RX 6400 4GB graphics card, a Core i7-4770 / FX-9590 processor, and 8 GB of RAM to play at 1080p.

Can I run GTA 5 on my laptop?

Yes, if your laptop has a dedicated graphics card around a GTX 1630 4GB / RX 6400 4GB or better and 8 GB of RAM. Laptops with only integrated graphics usually fall short. Enter your laptop's GPU in the tool above to check. Keep in mind that the laptop version of a card runs a little slower than the desktop card of the same name, and heat can lower sustained frame rates.

There are two PC versions of GTA V now, and this trips people up. The original game, called Legacy, is a 2015 title that runs on almost anything. GTA V Enhanced, released in 2025, is a rebuilt version with ray tracing and much higher requirements. If you already own GTA V on PC, you own both.

So the honest answer depends on which one you mean. If you are worried about an older or budget PC, you almost certainly can run the original. Enhanced is the one that needs a modern mid-range machine and an SSD. The checker above tests your PC against Enhanced, since that is where the question actually matters.

Legacy vs Enhanced: which one do you mean?

The original GTA V (Legacy) is a light 2015 game. Its true minimum is a 2008-era graphics card, which is why it runs on nearly any laptop or desktop from the last decade. Even integrated graphics can manage it at low settings with a few tweaks.

GTA V Enhanced (2025) is the demanding one. It adds ray-traced shadows, reflections, and lighting, DLSS and FSR upscaling, DirectStorage, and console-quality textures. It needs a modern CPU, a ray-tracing capable GPU, and an SSD. If you own GTA V on PC, Enhanced is a free upgrade.

Running the original on a low-end PC

If your PC is old or budget, aim for the original GTA V. A GTX 1060 pushes well over 60 fps at high settings, and even a GTX 750 Ti handles medium. Integrated graphics get 15 to 45 fps on low with some settings tuning, and an SSD makes the world load in far more smoothly.

For the best low-end experience, install on an SSD if you can, drop the population and distance sliders, and turn off MSAA. The game is very forgiving.

Storage, SSD, and FiveM

The original now takes about 120GB after years of updates and runs fine from a hard drive, just with slower loads. Enhanced takes about 105GB and requires an SSD because it uses DirectStorage.

If you play the FiveM modded multiplayer, the original Legacy version is still the safer choice, since Enhanced mod support is only partial for now.

Can I run GTA 5? Your questions answered

Enhanced is a 2025 rebuild with ray tracing, DLSS and FSR upscaling, and console-quality textures. It needs roughly twice the RAM, a much newer CPU, an SSD, and a ray-tracing capable GPU. The original is far lighter and has none of that.

The original runs on integrated graphics at low settings, roughly 15 to 45 fps with a few tweaks. GTA V Enhanced needs a dedicated graphics card, since its minimum spec already assumes one.

The original lists 4GB as its minimum and is comfortable at 8GB, with no real benefit past that. GTA V Enhanced needs 8GB minimum and Rockstar recommends 16GB, since it also has to load higher-resolution textures and ray tracing data.

Enhanced for the best visuals, and it is free if you already own the game. Legacy for older hardware or full mod and FiveM support.

The original takes about 120GB now after years of updates. Enhanced takes about 105GB and requires an SSD.

The original runs from a hard drive, just with slower loads. GTA V Enhanced requires an SSD because it uses DirectStorage to stream in its higher-detail assets, and it will not install cleanly on a spinning hard drive.

Yes, Enhanced adds ray-traced shadows, reflections, and ambient lighting on top of the original game world. You can turn it off, and doing so gives a large frame-rate jump, letting a GTX 1630 or RX 6400 class card handle it at 1080p.

Yes, if you already own GTA V on PC through Steam, the Epic Games Store, or the Rockstar Games Launcher.

The original Legacy version is the safer choice for FiveM right now, since it has full mod support. Enhanced mod support is still only partial.

The original Legacy version runs on DirectX 11. GTA V Enhanced moved to DirectX 12, which is what makes its ray tracing possible, so your GPU and Windows install both need DirectX 12 support to play Enhanced.

The original is comfortable with 2GB at 1080p and better with 4GB at higher settings. Enhanced's minimum-spec cards carry 4GB, but 8GB is the real sweet spot once you turn on ray tracing and higher texture settings, since 4GB cards can start stuttering there.

Yes. GTA Online runs inside whichever version you launch, Legacy or Enhanced, and uses the same hardware requirements as story mode. A busy Online session with lots of players and traffic can lean harder on your CPU than the story campaign, so aim for the recommended spec rather than the bare minimum if you play Online a lot. You will also need a stable internet connection and a Rockstar Social Club account.

For the original, yes. Its true minimum CPU is a decade-old Core 2 Quad, so a modern i3 clears that easily, and it can limp along on integrated graphics alone at low settings. GTA V Enhanced needs a dedicated GPU no matter which CPU you pair it with, since even its minimum spec assumes a GTX 1630 or RX 6400 class card.

It clears the bar. The RTX 3050 matches GTA 5's minimum, so 1080p on low to medium is realistic once you tune a few settings.

Yes, on modest settings. The GTX 1650 meets what GTA 5 needs at minimum, so 1080p low to medium is the sweet spot.

Playable, yes. The GTX 1060 6GB passes GTA 5's minimum bar, so aim for low to medium at 1080p and drop settings if the frame rate dips. The original runs at well over 60 fps. Enhanced handles 1080p with upscaling.

Yes, on modest settings. The RX 580 meets what GTA 5 needs at minimum, so 1080p low to medium is the sweet spot.

The RTX 4060 is a strong fit for GTA 5. It lands at or above the recommended spec, so high 1080p is comfortable and 1440p works.

Yes, with room to spare. GTA 5 recommends less than the RTX 3060 offers, so expect smooth 1080p high and a playable 1440p. The recommended card for Enhanced, around 100 fps at 1080p with DLSS.

The RTX 2060 gets you in. It meets GTA 5's minimum, so low to medium at 1080p works, and turning a couple of things down keeps it steady.

Yes, though keep expectations modest. The GTX 1660 clears GTA 5's minimum, so plan on 1080p at low to medium and trim a setting or two for a steady frame rate.

Runnable. The GTX 1660 Super covers GTA 5's minimum, meaning 1080p low to medium and a smoother feel after a small settings drop.

Yes. GTA 5 runs on the RX 6600 at 1080p low to medium; shave a setting or two and the frame rate settles.

It clears the bar. The GTX 1660 Ti matches GTA 5's minimum, so 1080p on low to medium is realistic once you tune a few settings.

Yes. The RTX 3060 Ti has headroom over GTA 5's recommended card, so you can push 1080p high and move to 1440p when you want.

Yes, at the lower end. With the RTX 4050 you clear GTA 5's minimum, so 1080p low to medium is the target and easing back a setting helps.

Yes, at the lower end. With the GTX 1050 Ti you clear GTA 5's minimum, so 1080p low to medium is the target and easing back a setting helps.

You are well set. The RTX 4070 exceeds GTA 5's recommended card, so 1080p high is easy and 1440p is realistic.

There is no native Mac version of either GTA V or GTA V Enhanced. A MacBook, including every M-series model, can only play it through cloud streaming or an unofficial Windows layer. A Windows PC is the proper way to play.

Yes. The original runs well on both handhelds and is Steam Deck Verified. GTA V Enhanced is much heavier and needs lower settings, ray tracing off, and upscaling to stay smooth.

Not natively. A Chromebook can only run it through cloud streaming such as GeForce Now.

The original hits 60 fps and even 4K easily on a modern mid-range card. GTA V Enhanced with ray tracing needs an RTX 3060 or better plus DLSS for a steady 60 at 1080p or 1440p, and a much stronger card for 4K.

Yes. GTA V is on PS4 and PS5, with an upgraded PS5 version. This page covers the two PC versions.

For the original, the most common causes are very old graphics drivers or too little RAM, since the game itself is light. For GTA V Enhanced, check that you have an SSD (it will refuse to run properly from a hard drive), 8GB or more of RAM, a DirectX 12 capable Windows install, and a ray-tracing capable GPU like a GTX 1630 or better.

Rockstar does not officially support Linux, but the original runs well through Proton on Steam Deck and other Linux setups, and it is Steam Deck Verified. GTA V Enhanced's Linux compatibility through Proton is shakier because of its anti-cheat, so results vary and the original is the safer bet if you are on Linux.

There is no official mobile or tablet version of GTA V. The only way to play on one is cloud streaming through a service like GeForce Now, which needs a solid internet connection and still runs the game on someone else's PC.

You can emulate the older PS3 or Xbox 360 versions on a powerful PC using tools like RPCS3 or Xenia, but it is unofficial, fiddly to set up, and often runs worse than just buying the real PC version, which is inexpensive and far easier to get working.

Yes. GTA V has an upgraded version on Xbox Series X and S, and it also runs on older Xbox consoles. This page covers the two PC versions.

No, there has never been a Switch version of GTA V, and Rockstar has not announced one for Switch 2 either. It is on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. This page covers the PC versions.

Yes, GTA V originally launched on PS3 back in 2013, and it still works there, but that version is over a decade old and long since surpassed by the PC release. This page is about running GTA V on PC.

Yes, GTA V launched on Xbox 360 alongside PS3 in 2013. Like the PS3 version, it is dated compared to the PC release covered here.

Yes for the original, at low to medium settings around 30 to 45 fps depending on which laptop CPU it is paired with. GTA V Enhanced is below what Iris Xe can handle, since Enhanced's minimum spec already assumes a dedicated GPU.

Radeon 780M, found in newer Ryzen laptop chips, handles the original comfortably at low to medium settings and can scrape by on GTA V Enhanced at low settings with ray tracing off, in the 25 to 35 fps range. Vega 8, the older AMD integrated graphics, manages the original at low to medium around 30 to 45 fps but is not realistic for Enhanced.

It is well below what either version needs. A GT 730 can sometimes limp through the original at the lowest settings in the teens to low 20s fps, and it falls short of GTA V Enhanced's minimum spec entirely.

Yes, past 100 fps on the original at high settings. On Enhanced it sits above the recommended spec with ray tracing off, running 1080p in the 70 to 90 fps range, and can handle light ray tracing around 45 to 55 fps.

Yes. The original runs well past 100 fps. On Enhanced it clears the recommended spec, holding 70 to 90 fps at 1080p with ray tracing off and around 50 to 60 fps with ray tracing on using FSR.

Yes. It sits above the recommended spec for Enhanced, handling 1080p with ray tracing on around 70 to 90 fps, while 1440p with DLSS lands in the 55 to 65 fps range.

Yes, well above the recommended spec. Enhanced at 1440p with ray tracing and DLSS runs around 90 to 100 fps, and 4K with DLSS stays playable in the 55 to 65 fps range.

Yes. It is a high-end card for this game. Enhanced at 4K with ray tracing and DLSS runs around 70 to 80 fps, and 1440p climbs past 110.

Yes. Enhanced at 4K with ray tracing and DLSS runs around 90 to 100 fps, and 1440p stays well past 130.

Yes. Enhanced at 4K with ray tracing and DLSS runs around 110 to 120 fps, more than enough for a smooth 4K experience.

Yes, it is overkill for either version. Enhanced at 4K with ray tracing and DLSS runs well past 100 fps, locking a smooth 60 with plenty of headroom to spare.

Yes, past the recommended spec. Enhanced at 1440p with ray tracing and FSR lands around 75 to 85 fps, and the original runs well over 100 fps at any resolution.

Yes, it clears the recommended spec. Enhanced at 1080p with ray tracing and FSR runs around 65 to 75 fps, and with ray tracing off it climbs past 100.

Yes. Enhanced at 1440p with ray tracing and DLSS runs well past 120 fps, and 4K with DLSS holds in the 80 to 90 fps range.

Yes, it is far more than this game needs. Enhanced at 4K with every setting maxed and ray tracing on runs well past 150 fps.
